Presentation of Michael Stumvoll

Michael Stumvoll, MD, Professor of Medicine at the University of Leipzig. He gained his MD from the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich in 1990 and went on to take posts in Plymouth and Exeter (Peninsula Medical School), at the University of Tübingen, Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in California, and the University of Rochester in New York. In recent years, he has also been an Adjunct Investigator of the Clinical Diabetes and Nutrition Section of the National Institutes of Health in Phoenix, Arizona, where he worked on the Pima Indian Project.

His achievements have resulted in several awards including the EASD Minkowski Prize. His research interests include the regulation of glucose metabolism and the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes, the genetics of diabetes and obesity, neuroendocrine control of appetite and adipose tissue as a secretory organ.

Dr. Stumvoll has been appointed as ad hoc member of the SAB in 2017.
