Presentation of Philippe Halban

SAB chair Philippe Halban, PhD, Professor Emeritus of Genetic Medicine and Development at University of Geneva, Switzerland. He holds a PhD from the University of Oxford, and after postdoctoral training in diabetes research in Geneva, Dr. Halban was Senior Investigator at the Joslin Diabetes Center, Boston, USA, before returning to the University of Geneva.

He is past president of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) and its research Foundation (EFSD) of which he is currently Honorary Chairman. He has received numerous major international scientific awards including the EASD Minkowski Prize and the IDF Basic Research Prize.

Dr. Halban’s research has been devoted to the study of beta cells and knowledge gained by his studies is now being applied to the understanding of beta cell failure and decreased mass in diabetic states. Dr. Halban has been chair of the SAB since 2016.
