GLP-1 is an incretin hormone that regulates the glucose homeostasis, while GLP-2 is an intestinotrophic hormone that regulates the size and absorptive capacity of the GI tract. Both hormones are secreted from the intestinal endocrine L-cells upon food intake. We work with the extra-pancreatic effects of GLP-1 in relation to pulmonary and intestinal diseases.

We have a special interest in the importance of the endogenous secreted hormones in relation to intestinal injury and regenerative effects, and how different diets mediates a signal to the L-cell to up- or down regulate the hormone secretion. We are exploring the mechanism of action of the beneficial effects of both peptides on pulmonary and intestinal diseases, and our new focus is the importance of the peptides in the gut-liver axis.
