The Copenhagen Bioscience PhD programme is a new initiative that will enroll talented students with a university degree from outside of Denmark.

Four new PhD students will be received annually through a 4-year PhD programme funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation

The Copenhagen Bioscience PhD programme is a new initiative that will enroll talented students with a university degree. The programme offers an opportunity to launch scientific careers in the vibrant environment of the Novo Nordisk Foundation research centre cluster.

Sixteen students will be annually recruited and enrolled in the degree programme at one of the following research centers:

Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research
Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability
Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research
Novo Nordisk Foundation Section for Basic Stem Cell Biology

The Center for Basic Metabolic Research is expected to enroll 4 PhD students annually.

The programme will be open for applications from 4 January - 29 February 2015; the first enrolment is to take place in August the same year.

General programme outline

The four-year programme is divided into a predoctoral year followed by three years of PhD training . The first year of the programme includes:

  • short rotations
  • a common course
  • common seminars
  • selection of PhD project  

All awardees will have to pass an examination at the end of the first year in order to qualify for the following three years of PhD education. Salary and tuition fee will be covered by the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
