Challenge Symposium a success

Symposium

CBMR sets itself apart from other research centers through its collaborative approach to research and scientific discovery. It was in this spirit that colleagues from the Center organized ‘The Human Microbiome in Metabolism Symposium' on September 9.

The symposium brought together 80 scientists from the two Challenge Programme initiatives: Gut microbiome effects on cardiometabolic disease through metabolism-modifying metabolites (Gut-MMM), and MicrobLiver. Both are based on challenge grants from the Novo Nordisk Foundation. Group Leader Professor Fredrik Bäckhed is the leader of Gut-MMM and while Group Leader Professor Torben Hansen is the leader of MicrobLiver.

The symposium included presentations of research objectives, approaches, and early results and allowed the participants to get a sense of the scope, status and potentials of the two challenge programme initiatives. The goal was also to encourage collaboration, feedback and networking across the initiatives, which was a success as a number of potential collaborative research projects were identified on the day.

It was all made possible thanks to a separate grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation, which also served as the venue for the day.
