Tuomas Kilpeläinen is an Associate Professor at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (Denmark) and a Visiting Scientist at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard (USA). He completed his PhD at the University of Kuopio (Finland) and a 3-year postdoc at the University of Cambridge (UK). In 2015-2016, he was a Visiting Scientist and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (New York). Tuomas leads an inter-disciplinary research group that studies the genomics of obesity and metabolic health. His goal is to advance our understanding of obesity-related cardiometabolic disease by uncovering the mechanisms of action of genetic risk variants, particularly in adipose tissue.
