Disturbed postprandial glucose metabolism and gut hormone responses in non-diabetic patients with psoriasis

Research output: Contribution to journalLetterResearchpeer-review

Patients with psoriasis have increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes.(1-4) Though the aetiology is not fully understood, overrepresentation of traditional diabetes risk factors, shared genetics, and chronic inflammation likely explain some of the increased susceptibility. Glucose metabolism in patients with psoriasis has only been sparsely investigated. Previous studies are based on fasting blood samples analysed for glucose and insulin or various forms of glucose and/or insulin challenges.(5-11) The results are generally difficult to compare due to methodological differences and limitations in study design, e.g. lack of control groups or broad inclusion criteria.
