Metabolic Humanities in the Bencard Group
Contemporary metabolic science elucidates the complex and multilayered entanglements of organisms and environments. The Bencard Group explores how these scientific insights transcend disciplinary boundaries and call for historical, philosophical, sociological and aesthetic engagements.
Metabolic science always exists in context: It has deep historical, philosophical, cultural and existential implications, and is in turn shaped by such forces as well. Understanding this movement and interplay between metabolic science and culture is vital and requires developing new interdisciplinary research strategies, as well as new forms of public engagement.
The Bencard Group explores this interplay through interdisciplinary research with an emphasis on historical and philosophical approaches, as well as an extensive curatorial and theoretical focus on art/science encounters.
